Jazz At The 78 was set up in August 2007 and is still going strong. It features a resident Trio of Stu Brown (drums), Tom Gibbs (keys), and Euan Burton (bass), with lots of different guests sitting in each week. Visiting musicians often cite it as one of the most vibrant live jazz nights in the UK at the moment. It is free entry and goes from 9 - 12 on all 52 Sunday's of the year.
Guests that have featured include:Brian Molley, Graeme Stephen, Doug Hough, Adam Jackson, Ryan Quigley, Tom MacNiven, Bill Fleming, Phil Cardwell, Paul Towndrow, Corrie Dick, Graeme Scott, Andrew Sharkey, Nigel Hitchcock, Mark Nightingale, Martin Kershaw, Iain Copeland, Fraser Campbell, Ari Hoenig, Gilad Hekselman, John Escreet, Tyshawn Sorey, Mike Janisch, Paul Wiltgen, Patrick Cornelius, Konrad Wisznieski, Peter Johnston, Paul Harrison, Shawn Pentland, Julian Joseph, Mark McKnight, John Fleming, Andy Bunting, John Randall, Mike Fletcher and many many more.....
Heavily influenced by jazz modernists’ Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, the trio blaze wildly over the post bop canon - fusing Rhodes piano with an acoustic double bass and drums. Their sound is fresh and exciting, but tastefully demure in its delivery. You’ll find 78 on Kelvinhaugh street, half-way between Glasgow city centre and the West End, in an ethnic hub choked with new world restaurants." MODALJAZZ.COM
